Our preschool program is a play based classroom for children ages three to five and potty trained. The curriculum and environment focus strongly on social and emotional development. The classroom supports academic growth through materials, outdoor exploration, adult and child interactions and the environment. The curriculum is organic, meaningful, age appropriate and guided by the interests of the children. We know that children learn best through concrete, hands-on experiences. Therefore, the materials and environment encourage experimentation, discovery and allow for children to become deeply involved in what interests them. The classroom is designed to meet each child where they are developmentally and work toward goals and expectations unique to their capability and potential. This is not only accomplished by providing materials and experiences for continued growth, but to recognize when the child needs to be challenged for the next stage of development. In preschool, we value outdoor experiences as much as the classroom. Children will have the opportunity to spend long blocks of time playing outdoors and exploring the woods behind the school. Outdoor exploration and use of gross motor development is embedded in all learning experiences and an important way to understand the world. |
